Gresso Launches Luxury iPad

Well known for their luxury cellphone re-designs, Gresso has now moved on to give the iPad their signature treatment. This exquisite design launches today and includes the same 200 year old African Blackwood, which is said to be the most valuable tree in the world. Nested elegantly in the center is an 18-karat gold Apple logo which ties in nicely with the deep, rich colour of the wood. The price is not announced yet, but any potential buyers can be sure they’ll turn heads with this thing.

iPad Game For Cats

I think the iPad has finally revealed it’s ultimate and true purpose: To entertain the feline kind. Combined with the game titled very literally “Game for Cats” you can entertain your cat with ease! The premise of the game is simple, a mouse or laser moving around on the screen that the cat will try to swat with a paw. If you’re not already convinced, well…it’s a free download, so you’ve got nothing to lose. Besides getting a few scratches and paw prints on your iPad however.

Check out the video of the game in action after the break! You can also download the game here.

Free WiFi At McDonalds NZ

Starting today McDonalds NZ will be offering free WiFi in over 100 of it’s restaurants across the country, with more on the way by Christmas. It really is free too, although McDonalds say they have a “specialised internet service vendor…which may block certain websites”. They also say that if you’re having trouble connecting to the WiFi, don’t bother asking the McDonald’s staff for help – they are unable to provide any technical assistance and “have been told not to interfere with customers’ electronic devices.”

We’ll be sure to test the wireless next time we’re at McDonalds and update you. To see which restaurants are participating with free WiFi you can check out this interactive map and tick “WiFi” on the side.

Map of Facebook Friendships

Here you can see a map of where people live in relation to their friends on the social networking site Facebook. Many connections from Russia and China are not visible because they block Facebook in those countries. You can view a high-res version of the map here.

I was interested in seeing how geography and political borders affected where people lived relative to their friends. I wanted a visualization that would show which cities had a lot of friendships between them.

When I shared the image with others within Facebook, it resonated with many people. It’s not just a pretty picture, it’s a reaffirmation of the impact we have in connecting people, even across oceans and borders. – Paul Butler, Facebook infrastructure engineering.

You can read more about the process of creating this visualization here.

Behold, The PokéBra

I think this speaks for itself.

Awesome Doctor Who Weeping Angel Cosplay

Take a look at this fan’s epic costume reconstruction of a Weeping Angel from Doctor Who. In a BBC poll the Weeping Angels were voted the scariest monster from Doctor Who. They are a hunter race resembling a stone statue, moving quickly and silently until somebody looks at them – freezing them in their tracks.

This fan made quite a detailed version of a Weeping Angel using polyester suiting fabric, acrylic/fabric-medium paint, a hula hoop and velcro. You can find a huge break down of their process here. Check out “The Time of Angels” trailer after the break.
